New Darin Single! ‘Viva La Vida’.

October 9, 2009

Darin - Viva La Vida

The Swedish wonder Darin has come out with a single which was released on iTunes tonight, the downer being… it was released on iTunes Sweden! The single is a cover of the hit Coldplay song ‘Viva La Vida’. He performed it earlier tonight (well kind of yesterday now) on Swedish Idol. Take a listen to the single below:

My thoughts…

Well I’m an avid Darin fan and I’ll pretty much love anything he does, it just that this is a bit harder to love… harder than need be. I’m not totally excited that his new track is a cover of a RECENT hit. He did choose a good song and he sings it amazingly, but I think he needed to do something original cos he’s such a talented singer & songwriter and the growth of in his music style has been outstanding. But never the less a new single means a new Darin album not to far down the road! A 2009 release maybe? This track will grow on me.

Update! (10/12/2009): I’m in love with this single.

I like boys in bands.

July 1, 2009

Okay we all remember the days of the countless boy bands that had even more countless girls (and boys) considering marriage at an early age. That pack seemed to be lead by groups like N’ Sync and the Backstreet Boys, well about two successful solo careers (Jessie McCartney, Justin Timberlake) later it seems that that wave was over. ¬†But today ladys and gentleman I will reveal to you some modern day boy bands, that have come and gone, are here to apparently stay, or are the next up and comers. All are great pop groups and I promise it’s only the best. Let’s begin shall we?

*please not this is not a comprehensive list, it’s just what I listen to/heard.

First a moment of silence for the DEFUNCT:

NLT (Not Like Them) 2003-2009

(From Left to Right) V, JJ, Kevin McHale, and Travis Garland.

(From Left to Right) V, JJ, Kevin McHale, and Travis Garland.

Sadly the best of the new modern boy bands are now recently defunct. NLT was an American boy band with member’s Travis Garland, Kevin McHale, JJ (love him), and what’s-his-face (V). Signed to a record deal in 2006, NLT got to work and by 2007 they came out with their first single ‘That Girl’ which sadly failed to chart… Except of my iTunes top 25 @ number 9. Due to lack of record support and a leaked album, the band never got to release a debut album but have left behind a few amazing tracks. Fear not (just in case you were)! Good news is Travis Garland has been working on a solo project (which sounds amazing, check the myspace), Kevin McHale landed a major role on the new Fox series Glee (here is the one in the wheelchair), and well that’s about it. Here is one their best songs. It’s their last single called ‘Karma’, aside from amazing beats these guys had great choreography. Ugh what a shame. ūüė¶

Menudo (the MTV one) 2007-2008

They are all so cute.

They are all so cute.

In 2007 MTV came out with a series called Making Menudo in order to recreate a new Menudo. After a the show was over five member were chosen. They were: Carlos, Christopher, Monti, Emmanuel and Jose. I’ll be honest I didn’t even know the show existed or that Menudo was back (and I guess that was the same problem the rest of America had). Their short run did produce two great tracks (‘Move’ and ‘Lost/Perdido Sin T√≠’) that I can’t get enough of, yet I still don’t feel it is a big loss in the world of boy bands. Here is the best, it’s called ‘Move’:

Now that’s hear it for the one that is it to win it, The Current Hit Maker:

E.M.D. (2007 – present)

They are a Swedish boy band made up of¬†Erik Segerstedt,¬†Mattias Andr√©asson and¬†Danny Saucedo, all of whom are former contestants of the Swedish version of Idol. Their name is simply the first letter of each of their names. In Sweden they are a very successful chart topping group with their first album A State Of Mind debuting at number 1. Since, the band has released four consecutive number 1 hit singles. Now Sweden is a country that knows it’s pop music and the alumni of the Swedish Idol are no exception, many great artist like Agnes, Darin, and Amanda Jensson have gotten their start from Idol. In addition to the group Danny also has a pretty successful solo career that you need to check out. As for the band, take a listen to one of my favorite singles called ‘Jennie Let Me Love You’:

And finally let’s take a look at those Up and Comers:

Varsity Fanclub (2006-present)

Jayk, Thomas, Drew, and Bobby

David, Jayk (style challenged), Thomas (left the band / hot) , Drew, and Bobby (cutie).

They are an American boy band consisting of Drew, Jayk, Bobby, David, and TC (a replacement for the hottest guy in the band Thomas Fiss, who left for personal reasons :/ ). In July of 2008 they band released their debut single ‘Future Love’ which is seriously the single reason why I love these guys! It’s such an amazing midtempo sing with great vocals and it’s pretty freaking cute (the song not the boys). Their debut album was set to release last year but has been pushed back and they are rerecording some tracks to include TC in them. There is only one thing that I can’t take… Jayk. It’s his style. It’s so obnoxious and it makes me scream “why does he like that’s something to be worn in public?” view a sample of the horror here. Okay back to the music.. here is the track written by¬†Ryan Tedder called ‘Future Love’: (rehearsal video cos embedding is disabled for the real, which you can see here.)

V Factory (2006-present)

Click for a big picture of cute.

In February 2009 American boy band V Factory debuted with their first single ‘Love Struck’, an brilliant dance pop track written by Sweden’s David Jassy and Darin (an amazing successful swedish singer). I found out about this track when it was featured as the Free Single Of The Week on iTunes and I gotta say it blew me away. Currently they are set to release their debut album sometime this year, and have an EP out for download with some amazing tracks like ‘Round & Round’ (highly recommended). Where are my manner’s? I haven’t even introduced the band members! We have Jared, Asher, Nathaniel, Nick, and Wesley. Now here is the official music video for their debut single ‘Love Stuck’:

Well that’s all the boys I have for you today, I hope you found some bands that you liked. You know the drill.. leave me a comment, let me know what you think.

Really Darin? ‘See U At The Club’? Bad Choice.

February 20, 2009

Ok so I turn my back for just a little bit and what does he go and do? Release ‘See U At The Club‘ as his second single from his genius album Flashback. I’m a little upset that they decided that was single worthy, let alone follow after the brilliant hit ‘Breathing Your Love (Feat. Kat DeLuna)‘. Don’t get me wrong the Red One produced track is really good but it is¬†defiantly¬†album filler material and as the research shows the people of Sweden agree; the single debut at number 12 only to fall all the way to number 33 the following week. Darin I only want what’s best for you! Your one of my all time favorite artists! So hear we go… Below I will lay out some for-sure single¬†worthy¬†tracks that you can release next (and possibly immediately, just jump ship with that last single).

Fast Track, Club Worthy, Utterly¬†Danceable… Strobelight

Slower, Great Lyrics, Amazing Chorus… Road Trip

My Favorite Albums of 2008

December 29, 2008

Adele – 19

The Grammy nominated UK singer gained a spot on my list with her debut album “19”. Track by track it’s loaded with soulful, jazzy, and pop-esque tunes that are beautifully crafted. She gives an amazing vocal performance, which is what truly makes this album one of the years best and strongest debuts. The must listen track to sample: “Melt My Heart To Stone”

Darin – Flashback

Back with his fourth and greatest release yet, Darin has blown me away with his new album that has more of a pop/r&b feel to it that keeps the tempo up through most all of the tracks giving it a great flow. I loved every single song on here, the vocals are the greatest they have ever been, and I can’t wait to see what he picks for a second single. A must listen track: “Strobelight”

Lady GaGa – The Fame

Yet another strong debut this year was by Lady Gaga. Her album was a brilliant collection of pop tunes sure to glam up any situation. Creatively and vocally impressive, “The Fame” is a must have! And for those that may have only heard “Just Dance”, it only gets better. The must listen: “Again Again”

Girls Aloud – Out of Control

The UK’s greatest girl group’s fifth studio album (sixth album overall) was one of their best yet. Debuting at number #1, this album has proved that the girls are staying on top! Their collection of songs on this album are brilliant and innovative. The girls are pop music at it’s best and I love them for it. “Out of Control” has shown how their music has matured, and showcases some of their best performances. The must listen track of the album: “Miss You Bow Wow”

Justin Nozuka – “Holly”

With his debut album, Justin Nozuka delivers amazing acoustic pop-soul-folk blend. This singer/songwritter has created an array of tracks with lyrics that really make the songs. Sometimes they are deep emotional tell alls and others are brilliant upbeat pieces, both done with such great intensity. A must listen track: “Mr. Therapy Man”.

LATE ADDITIONS:

Maria Mena – “Cause and Effect”: My fault, I haven’t had time to listen to it prior to making this list but it is well deserving. Maria Mena has crafted a lyrically and vocally stunning collection of songs for this album, each filled with sincere emotion. It’s definitely not on the lighter side. It’s good to listen to to work out problems of your own. I recommend at least checking out: “Power Trip Ballad” & “I Was Made For Loving You”.

The Saturdays – “Chasing Lights”: The debut album from Britain’s latest girl group is a strong start for a very talented collection of singers. They most certainly gained their own sound admist the girl group powerhouses Girls Aloud and the Sugababes. Racking up a hit singles left and right, these girls are proving they are here to stay. Must Listen Track: “Fall”.

Wow picking the must listen track for each was really hard because each album has so many stellar tracks its unbelievably hard to pick just one. 2008 Brought both strong debuts and brilliant vocals from all on this list. I hope this turns your ear to these gifted artist and also to hear some of the best music 2008 has to offer. Comment and let me know what you think.

‘Breathing Your Love’

November 16, 2008

Darin feat. Kat DeLuna with the lead single from his fourth studio album ‘Flashback’ out December 3rd.¬†Darin Zanyar is a¬†successful¬†popstar in his home country of Sweden where he first came into the spotlight as the runner-up on Swedish Idol 2004. His music style has evolved as he has progressed, but Darin’s overall sound is an R&B, Pop, and bit of Dance combo (depending the tune). Out of the released three albums my personal favorite is ‘Break The News’. I put together a mixtape of seven songs that includes¬†my FAVORITE… Perfect (No. 2 on my iTunes with 132 plays!). So take a listen and let me know what you think.

Enjoy: Darin Mixtape
